Want to Work Overtime?

Want to learn more about producing online content while helping your classmates understand the complex challenges facing the world of journalism? If so, then apply for a position in the inaugural JFreshmen Newsroom.

The staff of the JFreshmen Newsroom will spend every Friday morning, 8-noon, preparing in-depth reports related to topics covered in the J101 course. The staff also will publish stories profiling first-year students' professional activities.

NOTE: Students selected to work in the JFreshmen Newsroom will be responsible for all content covered in the regular J101 course, even though they will not attend the regular course (note: all lectures will be recorded and available for download).

In most cases students selected for the JFreshmen Newsroom staff will not have time to work for other media outlets. That means waiting until Winter quarter to join The Post, WOUB, Backdrop magazine, etc. All students in the JFreshmen Newsroom will be expected to attend a variety of student organization meetings during fall quarter.

To help you decide whether you want to be a part of this project, check out this interview with NY Times report Andrew Revkin, who specializes in science and environment coverage.
